Framing the Experience: How Windows and Doors Can Elevate Restaurant Design

From menu to ambiance, every detail contributes to the guest experience in a restaurant. The design of windows and doors can play a crucial role in shaping the dining experience. The right windows can flood a space with natural light and create a sense of openness, while custom doors set the tone from the moment guests walk in. Each venue’s character is unique, so it is important that windows and doors are capable of supporting its carefully-detailed interior design.

Let’s take a look at two restaurants that we had the pleasure of collaborating on, and what made Kolbe Windows and Doors the designers’ perfect choice!

Earls Grandview Corners - South Surrey, BC

Our Kolbe Gallery team collaborated on the design of Earls Grandview Corners in Surrey, contributing to its industrial modern aesthetic with striking, custom window designs. The project showcases Kolbe Ultra Series Double Hung windows across one wall and a Multi-Slide window on another, both with an onyx exterior and coal black factory-painted interiors on Ponderosa Pine. This combination utilizes the character of hung windows and an important selection from Kolbe’s vast color palette to deliver key design elements that adhere to the designers’ theme.

The large multi-slide window, provided in Kolbe’s VistaLuxe AL line, provides commercial-grade durability and ease of use with an expansive opening to the restaurant’s large exterior patio.

A sincere thank you to Summit Brooke Construction and design shoutout Kirsten Reite Architecture for their collaboration in revamping Earls Grandview Corners.

River Café - Calgary, AB

The River Café is an iconic restaurant in Calgary, Alberta whose renown menu is matched by its atmosphere. Kolbe Ultra Series Folding Doors + Windows line the walls of the large dining room to ensure guests can enjoy the gorgeous views of Prince’s Island Park and the Bow River! The best part is, in the summer, the folding doors along the patio can fully open up, transforming the restaurant into an indoor/outdoor oasis, exclusively located on Calgary’s downtown island.

The River Café is well known for its windows. As guests sip their wine, they can slide open their window, feel the breeze, and catch the views of the river. There is no fighting over the best table here, you have a perfect view no matter where you sit.
